A Lifelong dedication to humanity
It is estimated that Dr. Garro Spends approximately 20 percent of his time each year in humanitarian efforts.  Countries in which he has served include Czechoslovakia, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, France, San Salvador, Spain and Ethiopia.  Until very recently, he made these trips abroad without the help of any agency or organization, an illustration of his dedication to service without recognition. Dr. Garro speaks 5 languages.

Peru. Dr. Garro is a native of Peru. He was born in Cañete, a warm and peaceful town located just one and a half hours to the south of Lima. Since moving to the United States in 1964, Dr. Garro has been travelling back to Peru to practice and offer his services to the people of all regions of Peru, gratis. Today Dr. Garro has a practice in Lima where he sees patients when he travels there each month. Dr. Garro performs a number of surgeries throughout Peru as well. Apart from his practice, Dr. Garro continues his humanitarian efforts in all regions of Peru, performing life-saving surgeries to his people free of charge.

Humanitarian Work in Africa.

Dr. Garro and his team of Washington Hospital Center cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, technicians and biomedical engineers make an annual week-long visit to the Tikur Anbessa (Black Lion) Specialized University Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The team brings drugs and borrowed instruments and equipment, thanks to the generosity of many American companies. Apart from performing life-saving surgeries for the people of Ethiopia, the team works with nurses, technicians and physicians at Tikur Anbessa Hospital, to teach and transfer knowledge and create a legacy of better healthcare for the impoverished.
